KAMPALA– Retired Major Ronald Iduuli , one of the lawyers representing Rtd Colonel Dr Kiiza Besigye in General Court Martial has gone missing from his home in Bulenga, Wakiso District.
According to Iduuli’s colleagues, majority of who are lawyers, they contend that his home was attacked at around 4 am on Tuesday morning by people suspected to be from security circles.
“The Uganda Law Society (ULS) strongly condemns the abduction of retired Major Ronald lduuli, a prominent lawyer and member of our Society. Ronald was representing Dr. Kizza Besigye, a renowned opposition leader, and Hajji Obed Kamulegeya who are scheduled to appear this morning before the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala City. ” Reads the statement signed by Isaac Ssemakadde, Uganda Law Society President.
He added that the brazen invasion of Ronald’s home in Bulenga, Wakiso district, at 4:00am today, is a blatant attempt to intimidate and silence their member, and by extension, the entire legal profession.
“We will not be cowed! We demand that the authorities take immediate action to ensure Ronald’s safe release and to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Ssemakadde further called upon, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the UPDF authorities, in particular, to investigate this matter thoroughly and provide them with a detailed report.
UPDF Reacts
While speaking to the press on Tuesday Morning, Brig Gen. Felix Kulayigye , UPDF spokesperson denied the allegations that they were involved in Iduuli’s abduction.
However, he promised to come up with more clarifications on the matter after engaging all other relevant authorities.
