KAMPALA– Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC) working with other key stakeholders, on Monday 9th November 2024, held a meeting where they resolved to reprimand Artists; Wabuyu Gereson aka Gravity Omutujju and Yasin Mukasa aka Lil Pazo for producing obscene music.
Although the two artists received an invitation to attend the meeting from UNCC Vice Chairperson Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, these didn’t show up neither did they bother to send a representative or apologies.
From the meeting, it was resolved by all members that; pending further investigations into this problem, the two artists whose songs have been variously complained against and
Singled out containing a lot of obscene content should be blacklisted from all live and stage performances.
“That pending further investigations into this problem, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) should direct all broadcasters in Uganda, not to play on their televisions, radios and/or online platforms the songs ENKUDI and DOOZE, OKWEPIICHA, ENYAMA, OMUNIO by the two artists.”
THAT where the investigations by the UPF, PCC and UCC, find sufficient evidence to prove breach of any laws in Uganda including the Penal Code Act, the Anti-Pornography Act, the Uganda Communications Act and the
Computer Misuse Act and the Regulations made there under, the said musicians and their accomplices should be prosecuted in the courts of law and
Appropriately penalised in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law.
“THAT all music Promoters, producers and media houses should not publicise all songs, theatre ks and audio-visual content that contain obscene words and/or pictures.”
However, that UNCC and other stakeholders should seek interpretation from cultural institutions and schools or departments or languages at the Universities in Uganda
The meeting was attended by representatives from Uganda Communications Commission (ICC), Interreligious Council of Uganda, National Cultural Forum (NCF), Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS), Foundation for Human Rights, Uganda Musician Association (UMA) among others.
This announcement came a few hours after Buganda Kingdom has banned the music belonging to these two from playing on all their media outlets.
