KAMPALA -Buganda Road grade one Magistrate Caroline Kyosabire has dismissed charges of common Nuisance against Okanya Sam aka Sammy, a prominent comedian who was arrested during Anti corruption march which was organized by Genzs on various social media platforms.
Okanya has been on remand since July this year , after all efforts to have him released on bail didn’t yield any positive result.
In her ruling delivered on Tuesday 26th November 2024 in presence of State Prosecutor, Allan Mucunguzi, court dismissed charges against Okanya.
“This case has been dismissed having found no case to answer, accused person discharged and set free unless held on other lawful charges, Cash bail of shs. 500,000= should be returned to the accused person.”
In July 2024, over 100 people were arrested in Kampala for participating in the Anti corruption March around Parliament of Uganda and various streets of the city.
After spending a few days on remand, all Sammy’s co accused who had been charged before Nakawa and Nakawa Magistrates Court , were all granted bail. When it was Sammy’s turn, he was granted a cash bail of 500,000 shillings and asked to deposit both his National Identity Card and his passport in court.
However, Okanya failed to produce his passport adding that it got lost something that the state objected thus leading to his further remand.
