BWEBAJJA-His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, on Monday, November 24, 2024, hosted 17-year-old Hafidh Abdu-Karim Kabiito, the top winner of the Kuwait Qur’an International Award for 2024.
The competition drew participants from 150 countries worldwide, and Hafidh Kabiito’s exceptional performance placed Uganda at the forefront of global Qur’anic recitation.
Hafidh Kabiito, accompanied by his father, Abdu-Karim Yiga, Sheikh Abubakar Tarzan, and his younger sister, Nalubega, visited the Mufti to share his remarkable achievement of being crowned the overall top award winner. His success has brought pride to Uganda, as he outperformed competitors from Somalia, Bahrain, Kuwait (the host country), and Egypt.
In his remarks, Mufti Mubaje lauded Kabiito for his unwavering dedication to studying the Holy Qur’an, a commitment that has earned him international recognition. He also commended Kabiito’s parents for their encouragement and his teachers, especially His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti and Director of Ubayyi Islamic Secondary School & Qur’an Memorisation in Bwebajja, along the Kampala-Entebbe Highway.
The Mufti emphasized that Kabiito’s achievement is a source of immense pride for Uganda and promised to introduce the young Sheikh to President Yoweri Museveni and other high-profile dignitaries during the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s 50+ Anniversary celebrations on December 12, 2024.
