NAMUGONGO– Church of Uganda’s Second Provincial Prayer Convention has commenced today at the Uganda Martyrs Anglican Site, Namugongo, under the theme, “Conforming to the truth of God’s word, not the patterns of the world” (Romans 12:1-2).
The first day of the convention has been dedicated to the youth, featuring sessions led by youthful speakers, including Rev. Simon Peter Ddembe Lya Yesu, Rev. Emmanuel Koboi, Rev. Bannet Ariho, and Rev. Grace Kavuma, with Rt Rev Moses Banja, the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese expected to grace the event. The focus is on empowering the next generation with key messages that address their role in shaping the future.
Topics addressed today include; Next Generation Preservation (Psalm 73), Remember God in Your Days of Youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1-14), and Unmasking the Spirit of the World.
The day also featured discussions on Strengthening Our Wavering Faith (James 1:2-8) and Subjecting Uganda to the Uncreated God (Philippians 2:9-11). These sessions were complemented by praise and worship, gospel music ministries, and intercessory prayers.
The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, is expected to officially open the convention tomorrow, with Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, The Nnabagereka (Queen) of Buganda Kingdom as the Special Guest.
In a media address on October 30, 2024, at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the importance of prayer in light of the current challenges facing the nation.
He highlighted the Marriage Bill, the Coffee Bill, poverty, domestic violence, liberalism, nudity among young people, youth unemployment, and homosexuality as some of the pressing issues that call for God’s intervention.
“It’s of great importance at a time like this, when we are challenged by these issues, to come to the place of prayer and plead for the intervention of the Lord,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
He added, “This convention is an opportunity for us as the Church, nation, and families to come together at the feet of Jesus for prayer, spiritual renewal, mediation, transformation, and revival. Who knows what God can do when we pray as a nation?”
The Second Provincial Prayer Convention running from 20th to 23rd November 2024 is organized by the Directorate of Mission and Outreach with support from ministry partners.
