KAMPALA– Monday, the Constitutional Court kicked off a three-day session to hear 14 Constitutional Petitions, eight Applications, and one Constitutional Reference.
The session which began on 18th November will be concluded on 20th November 2024.
It is being presided over by Justices Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Muzamiru Kibeedi, Christopher Gashirabake, Oscar Kihika, Margaret Tibulya, Moses Kazibwe Kawumi, and Asa Mugenyi.
Day One was concluded with the hearing of five Constitutional Petitions and five Constitutional Applications.
By end of business on Monday, four Petitions were reserved for judgment, One was adjourned to 20th November for purposes of consolidation and hearing and five Applications were dismissed by reason of withdrawal.
In one of the Petitions reserved for judgment, the petitioners challenged the constitutionality of the establishment, functions, and activities of the State House Anti-corruption Unit. They argued that the Unit’s activities duplicate and usurp the police functions of arrest, investigation, and detention, which they claim are unconstitutional.
The session’s day two is under way with the hearing of five Petitions and one Application.
