Kampala, Uganda – Muhawiyah Mukasa, a pioneering Ugandan entrepreneur, is revolutionizing the country’s agricultural sector with his innovative farming model, attracting international investment and creating hundreds of jobs.
Mukasa’s Kapeeka Agro and Livestock Farm (KALF) has secured significant funding from international investors, impressed by his integrated rabbit farming and dragon fruit cultivation approach.
“We were attracted to Mukasa’s innovative approach, scalability, and focus on sustainability,” said Joram Muzira, Investment Manager at dfcu Bank, one of the key investors. “His model has the potential to transform Uganda’s agricultural landscape.”
KALF’s success has created over 200 jobs, mostly for young Ugandans, providing valuable training and employment opportunities.
“Before joining KALF, I had no experience in farming,” said 25-year-old farmhand, Nalwanga Shamim. “Now, I’m equipped with skills to start my own farm. It’s empowering.”
Mukasa emphasized the importance of job creation and youth empowerment. “We’re not just farming; we’re building a community. Our training programs equip young Ugandans with agricultural skills, tackling unemployment.”
KALF’s innovative farming model incorporates climate-smart agriculture practices, reducing environmental impact.
“Our semi-self-cleaning rabbit cage system, made from local materials, saves time and resources,” Mukasa explained. “It shows that high standards can be achieved with local materials and creativity.”
The investment will enable KALF to expand operations, increasing production and exports.
“This funding will help us scale our model, create more jobs, and increase our export capacity,” Mukasa said.
