KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has successfully hosted the country’s first-ever Data Governance Forum, bringing together industry experts to tackle data governance and risk management in the banking and financial services sector.
The online event, attended by professionals from across the industry, aimed to enhance understanding of data governance and its regulatory requirements. UIBFS CEO, Mrs. Goretti Masadde, emphasized the importance of accurate and secure data handling in today’s data-driven world.
“Data governance is crucial for competitive advantage, trust, and compliance. Our mandate is to promote professionalism and continuous learning,” Mrs. Masadde said.
Keynote speaker Ms. Milly Nalukwago Insingoma, Director of Statistics at Bank of Uganda, stressed the need for professionals to stay ahead of the curve in data quality and governance.
Other experts shared insights on leadership engagement, data lineage, data privacy regulations, and cyber security. The forum’s discussions highlighted the complexities of data governance and the importance of effective strategies to mitigate data-related risks.
As Uganda’s premier training and certification body for the banking and financial services industry, UIBFS has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence and professionalism. The institute offers a range of programs, including professional certifications and short skills courses.
With affiliations to global institutions, UIBFS continues to play a vital role in shaping Uganda’s financial sector.
