LUWERO— A devastating road accident in Uganda’s Luwero district has claimed seven lives and injured five others.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at approximately 16:00 local time on the Kampala-Gulu highway at Sinalya Bombo town council.
According to Police Spokesperson for Savannah Region, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, “The driver of the Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBN 052L, was driving carelessly and attempting to overtake when he collided with a Hiace minibus, registration number UBL 502Z, coming from Gulu.”
ASP Twiineamazima identified the deceased as Mfitumukiza Rogers, Opirisa Charles, Ebong Joshua, Mugerwa Ephraim, Kato, and the driver of the minibus, whose name is yet to be released. A sixth victim remains unidentified.
“The driver of the truck’s reckless behavior led to this tragic loss of life,” ASP Twiineamazima said. “We urge all drivers to exercise caution and respect traffic laws.”
Five others were injured and are receiving treatment at Bombo Hospital.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident and have towed both vehicles to Bombo police station for inspection.
