The Merck Foundation has announced its “Diabetes and Hypertension” Film Awards 2024, in partnership with African First Ladies who serve as ambassadors for the foundation’s “More Than a Mother” initiative.
The awards aim to raise awareness about prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension, promoting a healthy lifestyle across Africa. African filmmakers, students of film-making institutions, and young talents are invited to submit their films – either drama, documentary, or docudrama – highlighting the importance of healthy habits and early detection.
The last date for entry submission is 30th October 2024. Applicants should email their submissions to submit@merck-foundation.com, including their name, country, and contact details in the mail.
Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation and President of “More Than a Mother,” emphasized the significance of visual media in addressing critical health issues. “Storytelling has always been interlinked with the human experience, and through films, people feel more connected and inspired,” Dr. Kelej said.
Merck Foundation has released animation films “Sugar Free Jude” and “Mark’s Pressure,” adaptations of their children’s storybooks. These films encourage communities to adopt healthy lifestyles, exercise regularly, and limit sugar and salt intake.
