KAMPALA, UGANDA – Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent political commentator and analyst, has passed away. The news of his death was confirmed by his close friend and fellow commentator, Frank Gashumba.
“I’m deeply saddened to announce the passing of my friend and colleague, Tamale Mirundi. He was a true giant in the world of political commentary and will be greatly missed,” Gashumba said.
Mirundi had been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kisubi Hospital since July, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. Despite initial reports of progress and potential recovery, his condition took a turn for the worse.
“We thank God for granting one of Uganda’s most beloved and respected media personalities another chance at life,” Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, had posted on social media just days ago, expressing optimism about Mirundi’s recovery.
However, Mirundi’s son, Mirundi Junior, had recently revealed that his father was being tube-fed and had not spoken since his admission to the ICU.
The news of Mirundi’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan political and media communities, with many paying tribute to his contributions and legacy.
“Tamale Mirundi was a true patriot and a voice for the voiceless. His passing leaves a huge void in our nation’s discourse,” said a colleague and friend.
