JINJA– Elsa Africa has donated sanitary towels to over 100 needy girls from Budondo Sub County in jinja district.
According to Mrs. Martha Nakabenge the country director of Elsa Africa , access to sanitary towels remains a critical challenge for many girls across the country and the Elsa Africa is determined to ensure that no school going girl is left out of class due to lack of pads.
Martha Nakabenge added that the organization is now going to focus on all girl children in candidate classes through out Budondi sub county.
“This is aimed at ensuring that candidates have enough concentration and are in position to write their exams without any interference.”
She further promised that working together with other partners, they have hope that more adolescents will be supported under this initiative.
The program’s other element includes providing another 100 teenage girls in Buwagi, Buwenge villages with sexual and reproductive health education so as to reduce teen pregnancies and improve menstrual care.
It’s estimated that about five million girls in Uganda lose at least 18 percent of their annual school time during their menstruation due to lack of sanitary pads.
These challenges are very common among adolescents and young people especially in rural setting.
