KAMPALA– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has created a new unit within State House, the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit to enhance transparency and accountability in the tax administration system.
This unit will oversee the operations of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and tackle corruption within the system.
According to a statement released by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), the new unit will be headed by Mr. David Kalemera, who has been appointed as a Senior Presidential Advisor.
The unit’s primary objective is to ensure that the government maximizes its revenue collection and minimizes leakages.
The unit is part of President Museveni efforts towards addressing the long-standing issue of corruption within the tax administration system.
The unit’s responsibilities will include monitoring URA’s activities, identifying potential revenue leakages, and developing strategies to improve tax collection. Additionally, it will work closely with other government agencies to ensure that tax laws and regulations are enforced effectively.
