KAMPALA- Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has revealed that they are still working with all other stakeholders including Police to find the exact location where Busiki County Member of Parliament Hon. Paul Akamba is currently detained.
Busiki County Member of Parliament eith two other legislators are facing charges related to soliciting bribes of 20 percent from Ms Mariam Wangadya, the chairperson of the Human Rights Commission (UHRC), on May 13, 2024 at Hotel allegedly claiming to influence the Parliamentary Budget Committee to Increase the UHRC’s budget for 2024/2025 financial year in exchange for the bribe.
Last week at Anti Corruption Court in Nakasero, plain clothed gunned grabbed security Akamba a few hours after being granted bail and drove him to unknown destination.
“We reached out to Police as it is our policy while searching for arrested individuals and as you saw Mr. Fred Enanga on addressing the press on Monday revealed that they don’t have Hon. Akamba in their custody.” Byanabye Kamadi Director in charge of Education at UHRC informed Journalists at their headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday.
He noted that although the lawyers representing Akamba in court informed the general public that their client is in safe hands, they are continuing to work with all concerned stakeholders to ensure that they find the exact location where he is being detained.
