Father Henry Kasule, the priest for Kyanukuzi parish in Lwengo District, Uganda, has lambasted politicians for betraying their followers in exchange for small bribes. Speaking during the burial ceremony of Pascal Ssekasamba in Masaka on May 18, 2024, Fr Kasule expressed his disappointment and frustration with the politicians’ lack of integrity.
“Many people change. Politicians have let most of us down. They are so unreliable. They change over small amounts of money without minding about their followers. Please have some sense of shame. What’s your value?” Fr Kasule admonished.
The ceremony was attended by several prominent politicians, including Bobi Wine, Mathias Mpuuga, and Abed Bwanika, who were present to pay their respects.
Fr Kasule’s remarks have sparked a conversation about the need for accountability and integrity in politics. His criticism of politicians who prioritize personal gain over the well-being of their constituents resonates with many Ugandans who feel let down by their leaders.
The priest’s bold statement serves as a reminder to politicians to stay true to their values and prioritize the needs of their followers. As Uganda grapples with issues of corruption and political instability, Fr Kasule’s words are a timely call to action for leaders to reflect on their actions and strive for better.”
