KAMPALA, UGANDA — A chilling attempted murder incident has shaken the Nateete Division community, with police launching an investigation into the brutal attack on a local businessman.
Turyamuhaki Sam, 55, a resident of Kabawo Zone, Lubaga Division, was targeted while conducting a financial transaction at Bashir Grain Millers on May 13th, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM. According to eyewitnesses, Kiiza Ashiraf, an employee at the mill, suddenly entered the office carrying a sack and brandished a machete and hammer, demanding the money.
A fierce struggle ensued, resulting in Turyamuhaki sustaining severe head injuries from the assailant’s weapons. Quick-thinking bystanders intervened, subduing the attacker and allowing Turyamuhaki to receive prompt medical attention.
Police were swiftly notified, and a thorough investigation is underway. Exhibits, including the weapons used in the assault, have been recovered, and CCTV footage from the scene is being examined. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police are working to establish a connection.
“We are working tirelessly to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served,” said Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire. “We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.”
The incident has raised concerns among local residents, who are calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. “This attack has left us shaken,” said a nearby business owner. “We need more police patrols and security cameras to ensure our safety.”
