KAMPALA-The Government of Uganda , through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries has suspended the selling Meat in Kampala district.
According to the letter from the Ministry, addressed to the Chief Administrative officer of Kampala, this has followed the suspected cases of Foot and Mouth Disease in Rubaga Division , Kampala District.
“Following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Kabowa, Lubaga Division, Kampala, Kampala District as reported on 28th February, 2024, Quarantine restrictions are hereby imposed on Kampala District as per the Animal Diseases Act, cap 38 Movement of catle, goats, sheep,pigs and their products and by-products from, to
Through and within Kampala Capital City Authority, Kampala District is prohibited until further notice.”
Therefore Livestock markets, slaughter places, including butcheries, loading grounds and animal shows in the entire district is hereby closed with immediate effect.
“The Local Government Administrators, DVO, LCs, Chiefs, Enforcement personnel and General Public are requested to enforce quarantine restrictions as per the Animal Diseases Act, Cap 38.” Stated Dr. Anna Rose Ademun , Commissioner Animal Health in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The letter which Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has acknowledged receipt, has been copied to all Ministers with in the Ministry of Agriculture.
