KAMPALA-As one of the means of improving French Language visibility in Uganda, Alliance Francais has committed to continue supporting all willing learners to master the language.
At the re-launching ceremony of ‘Njogera Francais’ (I Speak French) Paul Dinet , Head of Courses at Aliance Francaise revealed that these competitions having been targeting only schools but they have been widen to a wider scope.
“In the first and second version of Njogera Francais we have been dealing with schools through assisting them in career guidance which is abit lacking. Many of the learners don’t understand the importance of learning more than one language.”
She also pointed out that upon successful learners from the above competition will be awarded with a Diploma or a Certificate which they will be using to join higher institutions of learning in Francophone countries.
The French National Diploma (DELF) is an internationally recognized Certificate for Life awarded by French Ministry of Education to prove French language skills to non French students.
“Next year we are planning to go in upcountry areas like Western Region, Eastern Uganda and West Nile for pupils in those areas to also benefit from this initiative.”
Eric Tuze , the Executive Director of Alliance Francais commended his predecessor who ensured that this program is sustained.
Olabo Calvin, the Vice President of the Association of Teachers of French in Uganda, commended Alliance Francais for always supporting them wherever it comes to teaching of the French Language.
“I had a concern on the coverage of the French Language in some parts of the country, am so grateful that you have promised to extend these competitions to people in rural areas of the country.” Olabo added.
Alliance Francaise Kampala is the only language center accredited to organize exams of French National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris and French National exams.
The program attracted over 700 students from AFK partner schools all over Uganda with sponsorship from Total Energies, CFAO Motors, MTN Uganda and Lapaire.
The best teachers for the 2023 competitions won study trips to France well as the best students were awarded Laptops and Tablets.
