KUMI-Atai Ann Grace a resident of Ogino town council in Kumi district is one of the few lucky hardworking young people who have been supported by Action Aid International Uganda (AAIU) to upgrade their standards of living.
Before receiving support, Atai was schooling but didn’t have school requirements and other necessities which forced her to do some casual work to get some income.
“I used to do some odd jobs like fetelching water for people laying bricks. I completed school and joined a Technical school where I graduated in Tailoring. Uon finishing school, I borrowed a sewing machine from one of my neighbor with whom I used to share the proceeds.”
“Due to the condition of the machine, the machine didn’t perform to my expectations.” Atai narrated
Atai however noted that she was lucky to learn that Action Aid International Uganda was working on the project to support the vulnerable women to recover from the effects of Covid19.
She added that in the process, she received the machine and later opened up a shop which has greatly changed her life.
“This work has helped me to become an independent woman through selling of materials to the community and making school uniforms for most of my neighboring schools.”
On top of that Atai pay school fees for her child on top of paying utility bills and other family needs.
