Mubende– The Resident Judge Mubende High Court, Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi has resumed a Criminal session that commenced at Muinaina prison on the 11th December, 2023 and continued further at Kitalya Prisons on the 19th December, 2023.
At Muinaina, 13 accused persons entered into plea bargains while 53 suspects at Kitalya Mini Max Prisons, who were facing charges of Rape, Aggravated Robbery, Murder, Trafficking in Persons and Aggravated Defilement, also pleaded guilty and were accordingly sentenced.
The hearing of about 20 files continued on Tuesday (January 9) at Mubende High Court where the judge first held a pre-trial meeting with the State Attorneys; who included Ms. Sarah Bivanju and Ms. Jacky Akao and defence lawyers participating in the session.
According to the Acting. Deputy Registrar Rogers Kinobe, the session which is meant to end in three weeks shall handle about 86 files of capital offences leaving at least 200 files to be handled in the next convenient session, depending on availability of funds.
The Assistant Registrar, Dr Lubowa Daniel thanked the Judiciary managament for availing funds for the session since it was long overdue with many cases still pending hearing and is hopeful that they too shall soon be handled.
