Supporters of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba have called for Gen Kahinda Otafiire to resign, saying the Minister for internal affairs is not doing enough to follow up the investigations about the attack on City Pastor Bugingo.
This comes after Otafiire said reports about murders are usually delayed, due to the amount of investigation that needs to be done. The minister of internal affairs also questioned the attack on pastor Bugingo, as he wondered how the killer got to know where the pastor was going to park, and how he was able to attack a vehicle in motion from the front without fear of being knocked. Otafiire said police should investigate the matter thoroughly and give him a detailed report, that wasn’t subject to guess work.
But David Kabanda, the Member of Parliament for Kasambya County and Deputy Spokesperson MK Movement, said the minister’s statement is absurd.
“Why does Otafiire think that it’s wrong & being ‘offside’ for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to demand for a report and investigation about the attempted assassination of Ps Bujjingo? His statement is absurd and worrying for our nation especially coming from a Minister in charge of Internal Affairs who has a duty to explain the killing and disappearance of Ugandans,” he said.
“Many people have been shot and killed under his leadership as Minister of Internal Affairs and he has never come out with any report not even stepping in parliament to account for the lives lost. Even if you don’t like Ps Bujjingo because he supports Gen. MK but tell us who has been killing all other people,” he added.
NRM secretary for Mbarara City Polly Katwiire Karamuzi who doubles as Gen Muhoozi’s political mobilizer for Ankole sub region asked President Museveni to sack Otafiire.
“Many people have been killed but there’s no report. [Vlogger Ibrahim Tusubira, alias] Isma Olaxess was shot dead [in May 2023] but we’re yet to get the report about his killing. Gen Otafiire should also stop disrespecting [Presidents Museveni’s son],”he said.
Bugingo was attacked on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Namungoona, a Kampala suburb by unknown assassins, who shot at his car registered as Praize God. The attack claimed the life of his driver and bodyguard Richard Muhumuza, a member of the SFC force.
Bugingo made his first public appearance after the attack on Wednesday and thanked God for giving him a second chance to live. The Head Pastor of House of Prayer Ministries also said, he has no one to accuse for the attack.
