KUMI– Rev Thomas Edison Irigei, 69, the retired Archbishop of Kumi Diocese has on Tuesday passed away.
According to the official communication from Rt Rev Micheal Okwi Esarkan, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kumi, Irigei passed away in the morning hours.
“Your Grace,The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, Brother Bishops and Maamas, all Christians and people of God Almighty, We, Michael Kumi announce the news of going home to the Lord of Papa, The First and Retired Bishop( Bishop Emeritus ) of the Diocese of Kumi, The Rt. Rev. Thomas Edison Irigei who rested early this morning shortly after midnight this morning Tuesday 5th December 2023.” reads part of the announcement
He thanked the Almighty, for the gift of His life Salvation, calling, and ministry as a Christian, Lay Reader, chaplain, Parish Priest, Bishop of the Diocese of Kumi, and former Provincial Dean of the Province of Church of Uganda.
“Informed are: His Grace the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, all the incumbent House of Bishops and Maamas and all Retired Bishops and Maamas, all the Clergy, Lay Readers and the entire body of Christ in Uganda and people of God in the diocese of Kumi & Teso and All our religious & political leaders in Diocese of Kumi and Teso.”
Rt Rev Micheal Okwi Esarkan promised that as soon as the burial program is set, it will be released fully to the general public.
The Bishop Emeritus passed on at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital where he has been hospitalized for some days.
