KAMPALA-Key players in the Tourism sector have appreciated Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru for his visionary leadership which has led to a number of developmental reforms.
Among these is the documentary “Rwenzori Source of life” scheduled to be launched this Friday at International University of East Africa (IUEA) in Kampala
In a press briefing held on Tuesday at IUEA main campus , Kansanga, the King’s documentary was described as one of the key factors behind the revival of Uganda’s tourism sector from the effects of covid19.
“In 2021 ,521000 tourists came to Mountain Ruwenzori while in 2022 the number grew by 50percent and as we are talking now (towards the close of 2023) , we have received close to a million tourists.” Said Daniel Irunga , senior brand officer at Ugamda Tourism Board
He also expressed hope that with the existence of this four time award winning documentary and other initiatives, Uganda’s tourism sector will fully recover.
Hon. Joan Kantu Else Adyeeri, the Tourism Minister in Toro Kingdom , revealed that the idea of this documentary was birthed Kin Oyo’s sitting room at his palace in Fort Portal (June 2021) and through resilience it was finally achieved.
“We thank Uganda Tourism Board’s Executive Director , Ms. Lily Ajarova , the country’s Minister for Tourism and other partners who spent sleepless nights to ensure that this event happens successfully.”
She thus called upon people from various walks of life to come in large numbers at the documentary launch so as to be in position to share experience of people who climbed the highest mountain with the king as well as find out from their colleagues on how it feels like to climb Mountain Rwenzori.
Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa , the Vice Chancellor of IUEA , noted this movie premiere event is very important because it touches on a number of issues like Tourism, Environmental conservation and Climate Change.
“The event will attract students and members of the general public who will be discussing issues relating to how to have a better tourism environment in the country on top of creating more Tourism opportunities.”
He further added that partnering with the Kingdom in such initiatives can’t be taken lightly.
