KAMPALA-Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) through its Chairperson, Justice Mariam Wangadya has summoned Kilak County Member of Parliament , Hon. Gilbert Olanya to appear and explain more about the allegations that he used divisive and discriminatory language against the Balalo.
According to the summons dated 2nd November 2023, through the Speake of Parliament, the legislator has to physically appear before the commission on 6th November 2023 at 10.00 am
“Where as your attendance is required in response to allegations of using
divisive and discriminatory language in reference to “the Balaalo’ in Acholi Sutb
Repion contrary to Article 21 of the Constitution which language if acted upon may lead to hateful sentiments and physical violence against that community.”
The office of the speaker has not yet acknowledged receipt of the said summons by press time.
However the public has received this decision with mixed reactions as sone members accuse the commission of being segregative in its operations by concentrating on minor issues living out those affecting the masses , well as others have welcomed the move saying that all people have to account for their actions.
