Mbarara Archidocese has released a tentative burrial programme for His Grace Paul K Bakyenga , the Archibishop emeritus of Mbarara.
According to the programme , Bakyenga will be laid to rest on Sunday at Nyamitanga Cathedral.
On Wednesday 19th July at 7am ,there will be a holy mass at Nyamitanga Cathedral and another one will be held in the evening at 5pm.
On Thursday 20th July , there will be two holy masses , one at 7am and another one at 5.30pm.
On Friday , the body will be brought to Lubaga Cathedral where they will be celebrating a holy mass at 10am. Then after the body will be received at Nyamitanga Cathedral at 6pm , 6.15 pm there will be a holy mass and later the vigil at Nyamitanga Cathedral.
On Saturday there will be several masses at 7am, 10am, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.
Then on Sunday , there will be a holy mass at Nyamitanga at 7am, 11am there will be a funeral mass and burrial will be held 3pm.
Archibishop Emeritus Bakyenga passed away on Tuesday morning at Nsambya Hospital.
Biography
Paul Kamuza Bakyenga was born on 30 June 1944, in Bumbaire Village, Igara sub-county, in present-day Bushenyi District in the Western Region of Uganda.
He was ordained a priest on 11 July 1971 at Mbarara at the age of 27. He served as priest in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara, until 6 March 1989.
On 23 November 1991, he succeeded as bishop of Mbarara, replacing the late Bishop John Baptist Kakubi, who resigned. He was appointed first Archbishop of Mbarara on 2 January 1999, when it was elevated to status of Archdiocese.
His Grace Paul Bakyenga retired on April 25, 2020 after reaching the canonical year of retirement and was succeeded by His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha as the second Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mbarara.
