In celebration of Mandela Day, a day that embodies the spirit of making a positive difference, we are thrilled to announce an ambitious initiative aimed at getting 10,000 young individuals to code. Our mission is clear: to equip African youth with the digital skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

Coding has become an essential tool in our rapidly evolving world, and we firmly believe that every young person should have the opportunity to learn and harness its power. Inspired by the wisdom of Nelson Mandela, who once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world,” we are committed to transforming lives through education and technology.

As part of our Mandela Day campaign, we invite students, parents, and teachers to join us in a journey of coding excellence. We understand the importance of providing accessible resources, and therefore, we offer a comprehensive online coding program designed for all skill levels. Our user-friendly platform ensures that learners can access our courses from any device, making coding education available to every corner of the continent.

Let us share with you some eye-opening statistics about coding in Africa. Currently, only 2% of African students under the age of 18 graduate with coding skills, leaving a vast gap in the digital landscape. However, with 70% of jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa now requiring basic digital skills, the demand for coding proficiency continues to grow rapidly.

By joining our initiative, you are not only investing in the future of African youth but also fostering innovation and economic growth across the continent. “As a computer science graduate, I wholeheartedly recommend the CodeJIKA.org program to high school students eager to start coding. With its easy-to-navigate curriculum and practical projects, CodeJIKA.org equips people like me with valuable coding skills, preparing them for a future in the digital world” Keabetswe Semelane, Grade 8 Student

We are proud to collaborate with Nelson Mandela’s vision and his dedication to education and equality. As we commemorate his legacy on Mandela Day, we aim to honour his wisdom by empowering 10,000 young individuals through coding. Together, we can build a future where technology knows no bounds and every dream becomes a reality.

To take part in this coding movement, we ask you to

  • Dedicate 67 minutes to empowering a group of teens by assisting them in launching a coding club.
  • Spread the digital revolution by sharing the CodeJIKA.org link with as many teens as possible and encourage them to explore our array of free coding projects.
  • Utilise the power of social media to raise awareness by sharing our programs and initiatives, accompanied by the following impactful hashtags: #Code4Mandela #67MinutesOfCoding #MandelaDay #CodeJIKAMandela.

“Coding is not just a skill; it’s a gateway to endless possibilities. I have witnessed firsthand how coding empowers some of my students to solve complex problems, unleash creativity, and embrace innovation. Coding opens doors to a future filled with growth, opportunities, and positive change- Thandi Mahlangu, Coding Trainer”

Together, let’s mobilise our efforts and inspire others to join us in transforming the lives of African youth through coding education. Remember, education is the key that opens doors, and coding is the language that unlocks limitless possibilities. Let’s code for Mandela, code for Africa, and code for a brighter future.
