Following the cancellation of Rev Canon Semakula as the newly elected Bishop for Kasana Luweero Diocese, Archibishop Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has appointed Rev James William Ssebaggala, the retired Bishop of Mukono Diocese as the caretaker Bishop of the above Diocese.
“The appointment takes effect from 18th July 2023 to 18th March 2024.
Bishop Ssebaggala will give pastoral oversight over the Diocese on behalf of the Archbishop, oversee administration of the Diocese, confirm candidates as delegated and baptize adults and infants.” reads part of the communication
Kazimba added that the appointed , will also ordain Deacons or priests and install Canons as delegated, prepare the Diocese in the process of reconciliation and healing until a new Bishop is consecrated and enthroned by the House of Bishops and other ministerial obligations as assigned from time to time.
Recently , the house of Bishop nullified the election of Rev Canon Semakula Kasana as the fourth Bishop of Luweero Diocese on allegations that he had children outside his official marriage.
This was communicated in a statement dated June 30th 2023 signed by the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda , Rev Canon William Ongeng , that the decision House of Bishops sitting at Kabalega Resort in Hoima district.
Kasana was elected bishop on April 3 to replace the Rev. Eridard Nsubuga, the current bishop of the diocese, who vaccated the seat on July 9 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.
