KAMPALA – The Judiciary has warned members of the general public against attacking judicial officers on duty.
This has followed Thursday dramatic events which unfolded at Supreme Court Kampala in a case of Ham Enterprises Vs Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) where a group of people stormed court and thus disrupting court activities for more than ten minutes.
Justice Elizabeth Musoke the presiding judge in the matter which was going on was left in shock as she asked Counsel Fred Muwema ( representing Ham) to prevail of his people.
However the Judiciary has also released a statement condemning yesterday’s events.
“As the Judiciary, our mandate is to administer justice to all irrespective of social status, in accordance with the law, and in doing so, we act independently and are not subject to the control or direction of any person or authority.
It thus goes without saying that no person and or authority shall interfere with the courts or judicial officers in the execution of their mandate.” reads part of the statement from Judiciary Communications department
They therefore advised that parties to matters before the courts have to exercise patience and restraint, and
accept to be guided by the courts, if unrepresented, or by their advocate(s) if represented. If dissatisfied with the directives or orders of courts, parties should follow the laid down procedures and have their concerns appropriatelyd adressed, through the right fora.
“We condemn the unwarranted attack on the person of the Hon. The Chief Justice.”
Judiciary further implored the members of the public to avoid engaging in acts that bring about disorder while in the precincts of courts.
