KAMPALA, UGANDA – The official Twitter handle of the Parliament of Uganda has been hacked by yet-to-be-identified individuals, Mr. Chris Obore, the director of communications and public affairs at parliament has said.
“This is to inform the general public of the unfortunate hacking incident that occurred on the Parliament Twitter account. On behalf of Parliament and the Department of Communication and Public Affairs, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this incident,” Obore wrote in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
He said all efforts to recover the account were futile.
“However, we were able to recover the user name and we have created a new account to ensure that we continue providing updates and engage with you as we have always done,” he added and urged Ugandans to follow the new account, @Parliament Ug for plenary updates and official communication from Parliament.

He also confirmed that the new account has now been grey verified by Twitter as a government organization.
