Police in Bududa district is investigating circumstances under which a 54-year-old Primary school teacher committed suicide by hanging.
Aloysius Khatondi, a teacher of Bubungi Primary school and a resident of Khabuku cell in Nangako town council was found hanging on a tree behind his home on Sunday morning.
Daison Mukuwa, the local council 1 chairperson Khabuku cell says that the teacher’s death has shocked many people in the area.
John Nangosi, one of Khotondi’s neighbors said that the deceased had told him that he was having difficulties he was facing in the family ranging from accumulated debts, feeding and looking after the family following the lock down.
He said he also complained of low pay which could not facilitate his family.
Nangosi said they are grieved as neighbors to have lost a generous person in the Village.
David Mupuya a fellow teacher said they have lost one of the senior teachers in the district who was preparing for his retirement.
Vincent Matanda, the Bududa district senior Education officer said they have lost a very hardworking teacher in the district. He said the same teacher has been sickly through out the year.
Elgon region Police spokesman, Rogers Taitika confirmed the incident saying a postmortem has already been carried out confirming the death was by hanging. He said investigations into the death will continue.

According to Bududa police station, four cases of suicide have been registered this year.
Last month, Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Matte this month said a 30-year-old man in Kabale District committed suicide over alleged failure to raise UGX 1000 to buy salt for his family.
Matte said the deceased identified as Micheal Omwamani committed suicide by hanging also behind his house.
In Malaba, Ronald Emuria alias Boyi, a taxi driver also committed citing economic economic hardship.
His wife abandoned him because he was no longer earning from the taxi business after public transport was suspended.
Emuria was discovered dangling in the middle of his house after using a rope to hang himself.
He decided to end his life because he was facing economic hardship due to the current lockdown over the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Yoweri Museveni ordered closure of all schools and most the businesses since March. Several people are complaining of economic frustration.
