36 FDC Katonga Faction Members charged with Terrorism Charges

KAMPALA- Nakawa Magistrates Court has on Monday charged 36 Members of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction with Terrorism charges Contrary to section 6(1)(b) and 2(b) of the Anti Terrorism Act cap 120 of the laws of Uganda.

These who brought at court by Anti Terrorism Police were not allowed to plead against the charges read to them on grounds that its only high court with jurisdiction to hear Terrorism which is a capital offence according to Ugandan laws.

The trial Magistrate remanded them to Luzira Prison untill August 13th 2024.

The accused who include 33 men and 3 women are aged  between 25 to 55 years.

Prosecution contends that the accused persons and others still at large between 22nd and 23rd day of July 2024, travelled from various places in Uganda to Kisumu in the Republic of Kenya for the purpose of receiving terrorism training.

The group was recently arrested in Kenya, were later deported back to Uganda and have been in detention at Nagalama Police Station.
